I found the Stray Paws from Greece website one afternoon in September. We had lost our beloved dog Lara in April and I had been searching different rescue sites for a while. When I opened the page I saw a picture of this little beige dog sitting on a table at the Vets office in Greece. I had looked at many rescue sites for dogs mostly black ones, but something about this little girl spoke to me. I called my husband and we sat at the computer and looked at the few pictures of Aleka. He told me to send an email to the rescue and tell them we were interested to give this dog a home. I received a message right away telling me to fill out a application, a very detailed and long one. Next thing we knew it that Anastasia Somers who runs the rescue would stop by our home for a visit.
We met this wonderful lady and she answered all our questions and gave us a lot of information about how these dogs are cared for in Greece and when adopted sent to Canada. We received many pictures of Aleka in her foster home in Greece and we felt we knew this little dog before she came to be with us.
October 23, 2017 was the day we had been waiting for. My husband, our daughter and I drove to the Airport to pick up Aleka. It was so amazing to see the families waiting for their dogs and then we saw the cage with Aleka inside. She was so calm licked my husbands finger .... love at first sight. We drove home and Aleka went to sleep in the back seat of the car and it seemed she had been with us always.
She is a wonderful little dog, so well behaved and raised with love and kindness. She is loved by us and everyone she meets and she loves our Canadian winter. We hike a lot and people always ask where we got her and I tell them to check out Stray Paws from Greece, because all these dogs are just amazing.
